Re: A bigger trap in the corner

I don’t think so. I have plenty more. Perhaps you are just trying to be proud. No, Ian, I was simply responding with a graphic to Mcbrion's post to indicate the updated setup in a problematic room. Much simpler and more efficient than describing the layout in words. Much as are your frequency graph...

Re: Pr17LS problem!

Peter, the 17LS/2500 combination works fine with the Paradigm Se-3's in the current setup (and did so with the previous Maggie 1.6 setup in a dedicated room that I had to give up for other purposes).

Re: Pr17LS problem!

Peter, sounds similar to the other-component remote emission issue I alluded to elsewhere, so hopefully getting it relatively clear of the cable box will solve the problem. I'd note that my 17LS has about 3" less vertical clearance above it than the 7" you've indicated, and heat generated ...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

The most effective traps in that layout are the openings into other rooms and there is an horrendous asymmety brought about by the opening at top right which your traps at bottom right do not help since they are "tuned" to absorb different frequencies. The commercial room treatment offeri...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

Hi Jim: He has the absorptive side facing into the room. Now, perhaps I'm reading your diagram wrong, but you appear to have the reflective side facing into the room. Am I correct on that point? I have around 40 tube traps, and have had them since 1988. I have 2 -16" full rounds, 2 - 13" ...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

My well-broken-in 17LS with stock EH 6922's needs 15-30 minutes after turn-on to begin to get up to sonic speed. It sounds even better after about an hour of "on" time. If it has been off for any number of days (as yours may have been prior to your acquisition of it), my experience is that...

Re: Isolation for CJ Equipment?

I tried out the initial four-unit set of Stillpoints Ultra Minis received for evaluation under my Oppo BDP-83, and the results were so good that I left them there and ordered two more four-unit sets. Those arrived yesterday, and I put the first set under the Premier 17LS. To say that the footers ach...

Re: Isolation for CJ Equipment?

I'm due to receive a set of four Stillpoints UltraMini footers for evaluation this week, and one of the components I'll try them out with will be my Premier 17LS (I may also give them a shot under my MF2500). I've used original-version Aurios and Mapleshade IsoBlocks under the 17 prior to this. The ...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

Actually, the simple addition of a floor-standing three-foot-tall 9" trap to the corner of the intersection between the audio/video equipment cabinet and the right wall has, in combination with the 16" Super Trap earlier substituted higher up, rendered negligible whatever sonic effects I'd...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

I once mentioned the option of mounting the flat screen over the fireplace. Once. (Actually, given the proximity of seating to the front wall, the viewing angle would be moderately--read "potentially stiff-neck"--steep.) The prints stay, though I've considered the possibility of flan...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

Here's a better look at what I have to contend with up front. As you can see from the knick-knacks, etc., this room is very "lived in," and the inclusion of what my wife quaintly calls grey-mix "Greek columns" would drive an interior decorator batty. Nonetheless (and though I wis...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner

While it would be possible to ceiling-mount the trap, I want the flexibility of moveability should the need arise. (Mrs hasn't noticed the change yet. :D ) I'm planning as well to DIY a new equipment console for all the audio and video equipment (including the flat screen) installed in that corner. ...

A bigger trap in the corner

A few days ago I decided to "steal" a 42"-tall section of the 16" ASC Super Trap stack at the rear of my main listening room (all right, it's the living/dining room) and substitute it for the 11" trap that sat atop the Mc MR77 tuner in the room's right front corner. The &quo...

Re: What do you sit on for music/movies?

This: http://jimtranr.com/Rear_3.jpg The photo's a bit outdated in that I've removed all the three-foot-tall 9" Tube Traps shown along the side and rear walls, but the 16" Super Trap remains in the rear corner. I relate to the need for and placement of stuffed furniture to provide a modicu...

Re: Ghost switching of pre amp-Lesson

Interesting, Quincy. Every now and then, though not often, clicking the TV/cable remote in my main system will turn on my 17LS or, if it's already on, switch the program source (typically to EPL1). My c-j remote, however, never returns the favor.

Re: Pre-amp for CJ Sonograph SA250

Mike, I can't speak to the PF series, but I have a later-generation solid-state Sonographe SC25 tethered to the SA250 driving standmounted Paradigm SE-1's in my bedroom system, and the overall presentation strikes me as very slightly "warm," whether the source is CD (Dan Wright-modded Pion...

Re: Preamp Choice

I've got a 50" screen in that spot! I plan to use 4" acoustic wedge foam squares above and below the screen though. If diffusion would help, maybe some is better than none despite the screen. My guess is that you'll hear an improvement with the foam wedges positioned as you indicate. If y...
