Re: Christmas comes early
Scroll down to the bottom: http://www.dgmlive.com/diaries.htm?artist=&show=&member=3&entry=22150 I was under the impression that one of the most iconic album covers in the history of rock and roll would be instantly recognized. The error is mine. http://s3.amazonaws.com/production.mediaj...

Christmas comes early
The Post Man left me a surprise in the mailbox yesterday.
I was supposed to wait to open this for Christmas, but.... uh, I needed to make sure it was alright. Yeah. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Re: Anyone running CJ pre with non-CJ SS amp?
I don't have it routinely hooked up to it, but there is a truly remarkable synergy between my PV5 and a Van Alstine hybrid power amp I have. Dunno how you would classify a hybrid power amp other than, well, as a hybrid. Tubes on the input side and FETs on the output side.

If I had to guess, I'd guess the lower preamp is a solid state PF1 and the one on top is maybe a PV10A?

Completely immersed in the new Steve Wilson remixes of the ELP albums... completely, irrevocably, hopelessly, deliriously immersed.

Re: Do you use a Media Catalog system?
I keep an .xls file of all the stuff on my hard drives. I even update that thing every now and again..... The physical media is alphabetized, which leads to The Great Contradiction between humans and computers. As an example, my physical copies of John Coltrane would be found under "C", if...

Re: McCormack MAP1
My understanding is that the McCormack Deluxe UDP-1 is exactly the same as the Conrad Johnson branded version, with the exception of the face plate (McCormack silver vs CJ Champagne).
Be aware there is no HDMI connection (which, IMO, is a good thing).

Re: CT 5 tubes
Short answer: no. The 6N30P replaced the 6922s that were used in previous designs. What it took five 6922s to do, a pair of 6N30P could accomplish. This is a quote from Lew Johnson: "The 6N30P has some unique advantages -- mainly exceptionally high transconductance, allowing it to substitute fo...

Re: request for moderator
As a general rule, board software works off of templates. It may be easier for you to find a different theme package (phpBB refers to them as "styles") for whatever version of phpBB you are running than modifying an existing template, especially if you aren't "conversant" in php....

Ye Olde Sonographe 250
The Sonographe line was CJ's "entry level" gear during the mid 90's. I got this one via Audiogon a few years back; it was shipped to me in a video player box with t-shirts wrapped around it as "packing material". Those of you who have used A-gon in the past know what I am talking...

Re: Conrad Johnson PV-5 Preamp
How would you describe the changes in audible terms? I was considering sending mine to Bill Thalmann and have him do his modification package, but I gathered from reading multiple reviews that this process subtracted some of the "overwhelming lushness" that is an inherent part of the origi...

Ed Deitemeier is one of the true gentlemen of the audio world. He is unfailingly well informed about his products and will do anything he possibly can to help a customer out. He is, in many respects, Conrad Johnson's "secret weapon". I have picked his brain regarding CJ products new and ol...

I've been very pleased with these little guys: http://www.vibrapod.com/images/vibrapod/vibrapodtop.jpg http://www.vibrapod.com/images/cone/conedown.gif http://www.vibrapod.com/ They are made by a company that actually specializes in vibration control. Re: What do you play to demo your system?
I will typically ask my victim....errrrr, I mean subject to browse through my discs and pick out something they know, but if they leave it to me I tend to toss on the Roxy Music Avalon SACD, the Beatles Love DVD-A or the Dire Straits Brothers In Arms SACD. If I already know they are real rock-n-roll...

McCormack MAP1
My system is sort of a counterpoint to Jeffery's. I love multichannel music and I have the McCormack preamp for multichannel audio and CJ power amps. The MAP1 has the same ARM (ambiance retrieval mode) that the MET1 has, but it is a solid state beast. I has 2 sets of multichannel inputs and 3 pair o...
