Re: KT120s and Biasing in Premier 11A

I had a system similar to what you describe (16LS2, Prem 11A,Quad 989) and never had the problem you describe when using KT120 tubes. I suspect it's something wrong with the batch of KT120s since you report no issue with another tube type. Also think it'd be a good idea not to use them until you ide...

It's from Audio Aficionado. That's a really nice looking (and I'm sure sounding) system that you have.

Re: LP125SA + tube rolling

Well...I do sometimes miss them. There's a special magic in my opinion with tubed electronics and stats or stat hybrids. During the 90's I had the original Aerius speakers and they seemed to marry quite well even with mid-level electronics such as the c-j PV10A and two different amps I had from Gold...

Re: LP125SA + tube rolling

RJ is correct in that there isn't a substitute available for the 6N30P (also known as the 6H30P) that I'm aware of either. However, they are offered by reputable tube dealers such as Upscale Audio. According to their ad copy: "6H30 - There are two types of 6H30 tubes currently being produced. The So...

Re: CJ Premier 350 and 350SA

Has Jasmin ever looked at the amplifier's faceplate? Not intending to sound disrespectful but it's plain as day: Premier 350SA. It's good to know, however, that ALL of them come with Teflon capacitors.

Re: CJ Premier 350 and 350SA

I don not know for sure, Jonathan, as there is some contradictory evidence on the c-j site. It does not mention the Teflon caps in its vintage product description. However, the 350SA is also missing from the listing of power amps eligible for the C1 Teflon capacitor upgrade. The latter would indicat...

Re: CJ Premier 350 and 350SA

I believe that they are one and the same amp with the "SA" designating that it's a Stereo Amplifier. The face plate reads Premier 350SA under the conrad-johnson company name.

Spearit Sound

Is going out of business after 40 years. So this may be an excellent opportunity to purchase some c-j gear at good prices.

I have no affiliation with them other than I purchased a 17LS from them over 10 years ago.

Re: Where do you buy your tubes? From Conrad Johnson or ....

Hi RJ, Glad you were able to come to terms with c-j and that the result was such an improvement. I am not at all familiar with this tube type but a quick search on the Internet brought to light that The Tube Store also stocks them. At a price of USD7.95 each it might be worth a shot? They also stock...

Re: Hum problem with LP125m SE

Both my Premier 11A and 140 had hum problems and I had to resort to a cheater plug in each case which promptly solved the issue. For whatever reason, I haven't had that problem with my CA200.

Glad you were able to find a solution, Ronen.

Re: What brought you to own Conrad Johnson gear ? ...

My experience pretty much mirrors ronenash: Adcom pre/power then PV10AL, Premier 11A, Premier 17LS, Premier 140, and then Premier 16LS2. Although I no longer own any of their tubed equipment I find the CA200 is more than satisfying.

Re: How To Identify A Classic Preamp VS A Classic SE? Trying To Make Sure I Wasn't Scammed

Anthony, if you look at the pictures for the Classic SE, you'll note that the small white capacitors have "te" after CJD. Specifically images #10 and #11.

That having been said, do you know which model you have?

Re: How To Identify A Classic Preamp VS A Classic SE? Trying To Make Sure I Wasn't Scammed

If you're comfortable popping the top, you should see CJD Teflon capacitors which is one of the differences (besides Vishay resistors) between the Classic 2 and the Classic 2 SE. I'm not familiar with that model but it's also possible the serial number plaque on the back may contain "SE" as part of ...

Re: Rick's Houston Stuff

Beautiful system. The Marantz pieces remind me of the 4300 receiver that I had for a good many years. Have a 120B tuner in storage that I should resurrect. My introduction to really good stereo was via a friend's system with Bozaks. Thank you for the memories.
